Terms of Service
Last updated July 16, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and byClaros, Inc. (“Claros,” “we,” “us”) covering your use of Claros. By creating an account or subscribing, you agree to them. We have tried to write them in plain language, because a document you can't read isn't much of an agreement.
Who may use Claros
Claros is built for high school students, typically ages 13–18, and their parents or guardians. You must be at least 13 to use it. If you are under 18, you may use Claros only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and that parent or guardian agrees to these terms on your behalf and is responsible for the account, including anything charged to it.
If you are the parent or guardian, you confirm you have the authority to accept these terms for your student.
Your account
Keep your login details to yourself and give us accurate information. You are responsible for what happens under your account. An account is for one student — please don't share it with other families. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
- Plans. Claros is a paid product with two plans: Pro at $19.99 per month and Premium at $49.99 per month. Premium adds a dedicated counselor and a one-hour call. There is no free tier.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically every month, and your payment method is charged each month, until you cancel. There is no fixed end date.
- Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from the billing page in your dashboard. Cancelling stops the next charge and keeps your access running through the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds. New subscribers get a 14-day money-back guarantee: email us within 14 days of your first payment on a plan and we will refund that payment in full. After that window payments are non-refundable, and we do not give partial refunds for unused time in a period. If something has gone genuinely wrong, contact us — we would rather hear about it than not.
- Payments. Billing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your card details.
- Price changes. If we change what a plan costs, we will tell you before it affects a renewal, so you can cancel first if you would rather not continue.
What Claros is — and what it is not
Claros gives AI-generated guidance: a prep plan, a college list, study guides, practice questions, and feedback on your essays. It is a tool to help you work, not a guarantee of any result.
We do not promise admission, scholarships, or any particular score or outcome. Results described anywhere on this site are things that happened for specific students in the past; they are not predictions and not commitments to you. Claros is not a substitute for your school counselor, and nothing it produces is legal, financial, or professional advice.
AI gets things wrong. Deadlines, requirements, costs, and policies change, and Claros can be out of date or simply mistaken. Always confirm anything that matters — especially deadlines and application requirements — directly with the school or the official source. Decisions you make remain yours.
Essays and your own work
Claros helps you find your story and gives feedback on drafts. The work you submit to a college must be your own. Colleges set their own rules about outside help and AI assistance, and submitting work that isn't yours can carry real consequences, including a rescinded offer. Follow the rules of every school you apply to. Using Claros to produce work you pass off as your own where that is not permitted is a misuse of the product.
Acceptable use
Please don't:
- upload documents or personal information belonging to someone who hasn't agreed to it;
- resell, redistribute, or share Claros or its output as your own service;
- scrape, copy, or bulk-extract the product, or try to reverse engineer it;
- interfere with the service, work around our rate limits, or try to reach other users' data;
- use Claros for anything unlawful.
Your content
What you upload stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it for one purpose: running Claros for you — extracting insights from your documents, generating your guidance, and improving your plan over time. How we handle it, who processes it, and how long we keep it are set out in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell it.
Our content
Claros — the product, the methodology, the interface, and the content we write — belongs to us. Your subscription buys you the right to use it for yourself, not to copy or resell it.
Connected services
If you connect Google Classroom or Canvas, you are also bound by those services' own terms, and what they let us see is governed by the permissions you grant. You can disconnect at any time from your dashboard. Stripe handles payments under its own terms. We are not responsible for services we don't run.
Service availability
Claros is provided as-is. We work to keep it running and accurate, but we don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available, and we may change or discontinue features. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, byClaros, Inc. is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost opportunities — including any admission or scholarship decision. Our total liability for any claim relating to Claros is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Some places don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Claros and cancel at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other users or the service at risk. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused portion of the period you paid for.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Claros changes. If a change is significant, we will let you know before it takes effect. Continuing to use Claros after that means you accept the updated terms. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Delaware. If you are a consumer, this doesn't take away rights you have under the mandatory laws of where you live.
