Claros helps high school students and their families prepare for college admissions. Because our users include minors, we take data protection seriously and try to collect only what we need to do the job. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

Who we are and who uses Claros

Claros is intended for high school students (typically ages 13–18) and their parents or guardians. If you are under 18, please use Claros with a parent or guardian's involvement. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

What we collect

  • Readiness check (no account): the answers you enter and the email address you provide so we can generate and send your report.
  • Account & onboarding: your name, the answers from onboarding, and your goals — used to personalize your plan.
  • Uploaded documents: files you choose to upload (e.g. score reports, transcripts) and the academic insights we extract from them.
  • Knowledge base: the struggles, strengths, and progress Claros records over time to keep your guidance personal.
  • Connected grades (optional): if you link Google Classroom or Canvas, the course names and grades we read from them. See Google Classroom data below.
  • Limited technical data: a hashed form of your IP address for abuse prevention and rate limiting. We do not store your raw IP.

How we use it

We use your data only to provide and improve Claros: to generate your readiness report, build and update your prep plan, college list, study guides and essay feedback, to email your report, and to keep the service secure and affordable. We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers

We share data with a small set of processors strictly to operate Claros: Anthropic (AI generation), Voyage AI (search embeddings), Clerk (authentication), Stripe (subscription billing), Resend (transactional email), Sentry (error monitoring), PostHog (product analytics), and our hosting and database providers. They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and none of these providers may use your data for their own advertising.

Google Classroom data

Connecting Google Classroom is optional. If you connect it, Claros asks Google for read-only access to three things: your list of courses, your own coursework, and your own submissions and grades. We cannot see other students' work or class rosters, we cannot see anything you can't already see yourself, and we can never create, edit, or delete anything in Classroom.

We use this data for one purpose: showing your current grades on your dashboard and letting Claros notice when a class is slipping, so the guidance you get reflects how you are actually doing. To generate that guidance, the course names and grades we read are processed by the providers listed above — including Anthropic, which generates your plan and feedback. We do not use Google Classroom data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone beyond those providers.

We store the course names and grades we read, and we keep the access tokens Google issues us encrypted at rest. You can disconnect Classroom at any time from your dashboard. When you do, we ask Google to revoke our access, delete the tokens we hold, and delete the grades we synced from it — nothing to email us about. You can also revoke Claros's access directly from your Google Account permissions page.

Claros's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How long we keep it

  • Readiness leads (answers + email from the free check) are automatically deleted after 90 days.
  • Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted on request.

Your choices

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. A parent or guardian may make these requests on behalf of a student. Contact us and we will act on verified requests promptly.
